About Let Us Say

Let Us Say helps you write to the people elected to represent you, and helps you find out whether they answered. It is deliberately narrow: one person, one message, in their own words, to their own representative.

Your own representatives only

We look up your representatives from your postcode and let you write only to them, plus members of the House of Lords, who have no constituency. Representatives are entitled to ignore mail from outside their area, and they do. Letting you write to a hundred of them would waste your time and theirs.

No templates, ever

We don't supply wording, and we block messages that closely resemble ones sent recently through the service. Offices weigh a thousand identical emails as roughly one letter. A message in your own voice, about your own street, cannot be discounted that way.

Campaign organisers may publish background and talking points, but never sentences to copy.

No accounts

There is nothing to sign up for. You write, we email you a link, and clicking it both proves the address is yours and sends the message. That single step replaces the whole apparatus of passwords and profiles.

The letter comes from you

We send from our own domain so that mail is properly authenticated and actually arrives, but the reply address is yours. Your representative replies to you directly. We never see the conversation after that.

We delete the message

Five weeks after sending, the body of your message and your address are erased. What remains is the fact that a message was sent to that representative and whether you told us they replied. That is enough to publish responsiveness and to notice a broken address, and it means an old letter of yours cannot be dug up later.

Who replies

Two weeks after sending we ask you one question: did you hear back? Those answers are the only honest measure of responsiveness available, and we publish them in aggregate.
