You can write to your MP for free, in your own words, and have it delivered to their parliamentary inbox. Start with your postcode, spend ten minutes on a letter about one issue, and confirm it with a single click in your email. No account, no template, no charge.
The five steps
The whole flow is deliberately short, and every step is reversible if you want to go back and change something.
- Enter your postcode so we know which member represents you.
- Choose your representative — MP, peer, or a devolved member.
- Write your message. You may also copy in human rights bodies and charities relevant to your issue.
- Preview exactly what the recipient will see, including your name and address.
- Confirm by clicking the link we email you. That click is what sends it.
Why we will not give you a template
Parliamentary offices can tell a campaign paste from a constituent's letter in a second, and they treat them completely differently: four hundred identical emails are logged as one item of correspondence and answered with one form reply. A letter in your own words, describing how the issue lands on your street, goes into the casework pile.
So we check for near-duplicates before sending. If your text is almost identical to something else that went through today, we will ask you to put it in your own words. The scaffolds in the writing page are prompts and questions, not paragraphs to copy.
What makes a letter get answered
Length is not persuasion. Under four hundred words, one issue, a clear ask in the opening sentence, and your full postal address so the caseworker can prove you are a constituent. If your issue is a personal case rather than a policy point, say what has already been tried and give reference numbers.
- One issue per letter — two issues get one answer, usually the easier one.
- Say what you want the MP to do: vote, sign, ask a minister, chase a department.
- Be civil. Abuse ends the correspondence and may be reported.
- Expect two to four weeks for a substantive reply; departments are slower.
What happens to your data
Your message body is erased after five weeks. What stays is the fact that a message was sent and whether a reply came back, which is what lets us publish how responsive each member is. There is no account to delete, because there is no account.
Common questions
- Is writing to your MP free?
- Yes, entirely. Confirming by email is the only step required of you.
- Will my MP actually read it?
- A caseworker reads it first and triages it. Letters in a constituent's own words about a single issue reach the member far more often than pasted campaign text.
- How long does a reply take?
- Two to four weeks is typical. If the MP has written to a department on your behalf, add several more weeks for the department's answer.
- Can I copy in charities or human rights bodies?
- Yes. Once you have written your message you can copy relevant organisations — from national statutory bodies to Council of Europe and UN mechanisms — and send to all of them at once.
